FAQ – YOUR TOP QUESTIONS ANSWERED
What exactly is stump grinding?
Stump grinding is a dependable method for removing stumps from your lawn permanently. If a stump is left behind after a tree has been removed, it can attempt to regrow. With stump grinding, the stump and the significant roots are effectively ground down, stopping any chance of regrowth.
What is a stump grinder?
A stump grinder is a special piece of equipment with a large grinding disk powered by a small motor. The time taken to remove the stump depends largely on its diameter. A good portion of the job involves ensuring safety, positioning the machine correctly, and adhering to startup protocols. In general, most stumps can be ground down in under 20 to 40 minutes.
How long will the process take?
In most cases, jobs can be completed in an hour or less. The time taken to remove the stump is dependent on its size. A significant part of the job involves safety measures like loading and unloading the equipment, determining the safest machine orientation, maneuvering the machine to the location, and adhering to startup procedures. The actual grinding process for most stumps is typically completed in less than 15 minutes.
Can your grinder fit through my gate?
Yes, our grinder is designed to be versatile. It has removable outside wheels that allow it to fit through any standard garden gate that is 36 inches or smaller.
How deep do you grind?
Our grinding process ensures the root collar is completely removed. We grind to a depth of no more than 14 inches. Afterward, we make sure to rake the shavings and dirt back to level, so there’s no visible hole left behind.
Will my stump regrow if I don’t remove it?
Yes, there’s a high chance of regrowth, particularly with some trees like aspen, elm, poplar, maple, and fruit trees. Some species of evergreen trees can potentially regrow, which is why we work to remove the heart of the stump, and it’s root structure.
Are there other ways to remove my stump?
While you might come across various methods online for removing stumps, including using harsh chemicals, extensive digging, and some people even burn them out (which has been know to create fires and is never encouraged), hiring a professional stump grinding service is the safest and most efficient method for permanent stump removal.
How should I measure the stump?
Most people look at a stump and want to measure the diameter of the tree itself (the wood above the ground), but that is incorrect. To properly measure a stump, you need to make sure to measure the distance of the roots at the base of the stump. The following image shows how to correctly measure the stumps you need removed.
